Type of Machine: 4 Thread Overlocker (Serger)
What We Like: The Bernina L460 overlocker is delightfully smooth and quiet while it stitches at a super-fast 1500 stitches-per-minute, with no vibration from the unit or resistance to the cutting action, and the ability to vary the width of the finished overlocked edge without removing a needle is impressive. By far the best feature of the Bernina L460 is the addition of a knee-lift to this top-of-the-line overlocker, freeing up both hands to allow you better control of your garment at the beginning of a seam.
What We Find Frustrating: There wasn’t a lot not to be liked in the Bernina L460, but it is disappointing that the thread catching unit is so difficult to install and remove, hindering the ability to open and close the front cover. It’s also a shame that when bringing out this new design, Bernina did not include a free-arm for small work like kid’s cuffs.
Points That You Should Keep In Mind When Purchasing: If you dress-make everyday, then this overlocker is perfect for you. Priced at nearly double the average overlocker price, the Bernina L460 can seem excessive but the performance quality is reflected in this higher price.
